Rooted in Faith. Growing Minds. Serving Our Community’s Future.
Updated: January 4, 2026

For generations, St. Faith’s Episcopal Church has been called to serve not only the spiritual life of Cutler Bay and South Florida, but the whole life of our community. From our earliest days, education has been a vital expression of that mission — a way we live out our belief that every child is created in God’s image and deserves a nurturing, thoughtful foundation for life.

For more than 40 years, St. Faith’s operated its own Day School, and over time that legacy has expanded into hosting and supporting a range of educational partners. From a K–8 charter school to our current partnership with the Village of Early Education, which serves up to 72 preschool and daycare students, our campus has long been a place where faith, learning, and community meet.

Today, we are excited to share early information about a new chapter in that tradition.

St. Faith’s Episcopal Church is pleased to introduce a proposed educational initiative for the vacant parcel adjacent to our main church property.

The project envisions the development of a new location for Sunrise School of Miami, a private 501(c)3 non-profit PreK–8, Waldorf-inspired educational campus designed to meet the growing needs of families in Cutler Bay and the surrounding communities. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering learning environments that support children academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.

About the School

Waldorf is a developmentally appropriate, experiential, and academically rigorous approach to education. It integrates the arts in all academic disciplines to enhance and enrich learning and is offered by over 1,000 schools and 2,000 kindergarten programs in over 60 countries worldwide. Sunrise School, founded in 2005, is the only school teaching in the Waldorf tradition in Miami-Dade County.

The planned campus is designed to accommodate up to 224 students, The design emphasizes preservation of green space, a small building footprint, and outdoor learning areas. Compared to other permitted uses, such as multi-family residential development, the proposed school represents a lower-density, community-focused use of the property.

Sunrise School of Miami is an Associate Member of the Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America (WECAN) and a Registered Initiative of the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA). Waldorf Education was established over 100 years ago and offered by over 1,000 schools and 2,000 KG programs in over 60 countries worldwide.

Thoughtful Design & Community Fit

Care for creation and respect for our neighbors are central to this project. The design is being developed by MCHarry and Associates, recently recognized by the Miami Chapter of the American Institute of Architects as 2025 Firm of the Year and known for their work in the design of educational facilities in South Florida for over 65 years.

Preserving green space is a core priority. The campus is intentionally designed with a small building footprint, maximizing open, natural areas that support outdoor learning and play — essential elements of the Waldorf-inspired approach to education.

Compared to other uses currently permitted on the property, such as multi-family residential development, the proposed school represents a lower-density use that emphasizes environmental stewardship, reduced impact, and long-term community benefit.

Timeline & Planning Process

The project is in its early stages and will follow a transparent, community-engaged review process:

• October 2025: Preliminary meeting with the Town’s Director of Planning and Zoning
• November 2025: Presentation of the project to the St. Faith’s Vestry
• January 2026: Site plan and zoning applications submitted

The property is currently zoned for multi-family use; a zoning change is required to allow a private educational facility

Next steps will include:
• Traffic studies
• Permit reviews
• A public hearing
• A Town Council workshop
• A final vote by the Town Council

The Town’s public hearing process will provide opportunities for residents to ask questions, learn more, and share feedback.

Community Engagement

St. Faith’s is committed to open communication and meaningful dialogue. Outreach to neighbors, families, and community stakeholders will continue throughout the planning and review process.
We believe the strongest projects are shaped in partnership with the community they serve.
